Singer/songwriter Derik Fein recently put out his 10-track album Therapy, and now he returns with the captivating visual for the stand-out song "Gaslight." The record explores the emotional grief and trauma stemming from a toxic partner and the regret that follows after coming to terms with his own emotions. The blues-pop-infused production courtesy of Dave Thomas Junior comprises solemn guitar riffs with downtempo rhythms and moody pads forming the eerie backdrop for Fein's grief-stricken vocal runs.
Lines like "Gave you everything and all I got in return was a broken heart and a four-letter word/You always made me feel like I wasn't worthy of your love/I always kept it real just to protect you and your ego," underscores his many attempts to salvage the relationship to no avail. The song's visual representation is brought to life by director Luke Harvey who uses fuzzy, grainy textures and the element of loneliness as the underlining motif throughout the clip. We see Derik Fein contemplating as he walks alone in different spots.
Listen to "Gaslight" here.
I highly recommend listening to Therapy, for many reasons besides the raw, unadulterated songwriting, soul-stirring vocal performance and overall relatable theme that dives into inner struggles, growth and the dynamics of love and loss.
