Ryan Toomin rediscovers himself in debut album "Disarray"

Ryan Toomin's debut album, Disarray, presents an intricate exploration that traverses both thematic and musical landscapes, effectively reflecting the contrast between the bustling life of Los Angeles and the serene isolation of Kentucky’s countryside. This nine-track collection exemplifies a hybridization of genres, merging Indie Rock, Power Pop, and Soft Rock elements into a cohesive auditory experience.

Toomin's musical roots are steeped in the classic rock influences of figures like The Beatles and Bob Dylan, providing a foundational sound that has evolved through inspiration from contemporary artists such as Elliott Smith, Radiohead, and Wilco. This rich tapestry of influences is palpably manifested throughout Disarray, where Toomin's adept storytelling intertwines with varied instrumentation, establishing a distinct sonic identity.

The album's production process is as noteworthy as its content. Relocating to Lexington in 2015, Toomin embraced the reflective qualities of rural life, channeling this solitude into his art. Constructing a studio piece by piece on his expansive farm, he meticulously recorded every instrument himself, resulting in an authentic, raw sound that encapsulates the emotional depth of the material.

Tracks such as “She’s On Jupiter” and “Another Thing Coming” exemplify Toomin’s compelling lyrical craftsmanship. The melancholic guitar motifs are seamlessly integrated with introspective narratives exploring love, loss, and self-discovery themes. Disarray transcends the traditional format of an album, acting instead as a lyrical diary that navigates vulnerability, isolation, and a journey toward resilience.

With a runtime of just under 30 minutes, Disarray delivers a potent exploration of personal evolution and transformation. Toomin's artistic narrative and reflect on their own experiences of chaos and clarity. Through his masterful approach, Toomin transforms the essence of "disarray" into a compelling and immersive listening experience.
