glimmers’ newest single deplores ‘False Hope’

Alternative rock band glimmers released a new single, “False Hope,” on Friday, after almost a month of teasing it on social media.

This marks the Atlanta duo’s third release this year, following March’s “Back to Hell” and July’s “Bad Influence.”

Lyrically, “False Hope” finds its weary narrator stuck in a dead-end situationship. They are aware that their partner does not intend to fulfill the promise of a real relationship, but cannot bring themselves to end things. It’s a striking realization that brings a bleakness to the song and is sure to strike a chord with many listeners.

Despite the gloomy nature of the lyrics, the music manages to maintain glimmers’ usual energy that makes listeners head-bang along. The song starts out with a muted intro before bursting into the first verse, which is a great production choice that embodies the feeling of pouring one’s heart out.

Maggie Schneider’s multilayered vocals show a clear control and maturity of her voice. Guitarist Alex Downtain gets to shine with great riffs and a guitar solo preceding the bridge, and the drums are impactful but not overpowering.

glimmers have been teasing a debut album on their Spotify bio since the release of “Jaded” last October. Here’s hoping “False Hope” shows up on that debut, as the song demonstrates further growth in the band’s composition and sets them further apart from their alternative rock contemporaries.
