The Mortal Prophets has released their EP, The American Junkie Show, featuring a 7-minute title track that seamlessly merges "American Junkie" and "An American Scene." The EP delves into the disillusionment and turbulence of contemporary American politics. Frontman John Beckmann's reinterpretation of "The Star-Spangled Banner" in "American Junkie" serves as a biting critique of American society, transforming patriotic symbols into stark reminders of conflict and cultural discontent.

The EP's lyrics confront gritty realities, with Beckmann singing, "I’m an American Junkie, just down on my knees, whistling ‘Sweet Dixie’ in the land of the free," addressing the deep-rooted contradictions in American identity.

Despite its brevity, with only three tracks and a total listening time of just over 14 minutes, The American Junkie Show encapsulates the band’s style as raw, rebellious, and thought-provoking.
