The River is a rising Pop/R&B/Hip-Hop artist based in Denver, Colorado whose latest release Out the Mud Volume 1, is a 3 track body of work that explores growth, and freedom underpinned by self-empowerment themes. The project starts with the anthemic "Best for Me" where The River looks back at her past and the excitement of new beginnings as she ventures toward her goals. Over a fast-paced, driving rhythm that captures the feeling of setting out on a new adventure or stage in life, The River embodies her go-getter spirit as she sings "You can never say, what is best for me." This is followed by "Fall," a mid-tempo pop/hip-hop-infused track comprising an orchestral, sweeping melody that feels like an epic movie score. Here, The River looks at the dynamics of relationships, her confidence, and the preconceived notions that come with it.

In usual fashion, she is unapologetic all the way through and reinforces themes of self-worth and confidence with her rapid flows and sultry melodic runs. The final track "Reason" is introspective and contemplative and sees The River diving into her inner self, and pulling out her deepest thoughts, fears, and dreams with lines like "Taking time to nurture my energy/ changing who I am fundamentally/participation and conception of my story." The production is cinematic and builds up slowly to a crescendo in the chorus section with rich and layered melodies.

Overall, Out the Mud Volume 1, is a great introduction to The River and while it might be brief, new audiences can get a sense of who she is and what makes her tick.
