Bahraini/British psych-folk duo Straylings shares genre-bending anthem “American Kid,” offering an explorative glimpse of their third album Call Back Your Name.
Coming alive at the intricate crossroads of 60s and 70s rock, psychedelia, and folk rock, the track is delicate and punchy in perfect halves. Layering bold baselines, swaying guitars for a luscious soundscape, the track is led by the intimate but commanding allure of the vocals, that shine as the star of the number.
An enticing representation of the upcoming album, the texture anthem captures the bold yet tender styling of the entire project. Speaking of the project, the explain “The album was very much a culmination of the last few years, with the timing of us taking a step back and living a somewhat quieter life. This was helpful in many ways, as we were making this record entirely on our own and had the space to allow it to evolve quite naturally. Because of this, one of the challenges of working on our own meant that it took far longer than we wanted; living in times where speed is a priority, it forced us to explore personal limits, and confront any self-limiting beliefs we had.”
With Middle-Eastern influences and storylines meeting folk and psychedelia, Straylings’ immerses us in the carefully crafted world of their enigmatic and thoughtful musicality.
