Nother's latest EP, PHOBOS, was crafted explicitly as the musical accompaniment for a modern dance performance choreographed by Labotilar and Eilena D and supported by the Ballet National de Marseille. The EP features a dark, immersive soundscape delving into time's fleeting and suspended nature.
PHOBOS skillfully blends haunting electronica with a cinematic atmosphere, drawing inspiration from the surrealism of Salvador Dali and Giorgio De Chirico's paintings. The six tracks on the EP reflect the anxiety and mystery of a nocturnal race, where memories are distorted and reality blurs with dreamlike visions. The titular track "Phobos," named after the Greek god of fear, is a spectral guide through this hallucinatory journey.
Throughout the EP, Nother manipulates sound to mirror the dancers' exploration of their memories, stretching and compressing time to evoke a visceral experience for the listener. PHOBOS not only stands as a standalone auditory experience but also enhances the fluid, surreal nature of the choreography, acting as a deeper layer of the dance performance itself.
With a duration of just 26 minutes, PHOBOS invites listeners to immerse themselves in a world where time is an illusion and fear, though ever-present, is as beautiful as it is haunting.
