Originally from Monterrey, Mexico, the currently New York based singer/ songwriter Checo Cadena has just dropped his new EP, Superstar. The four-track release gives listeners a glimpse into who the artist is, as he touches on raw and vulnerable themes surrounding personal discovery and resilience. With his move to New York City being a catalyst for the inspiration behind the EP, Cadena reflects on balancing life and all the emotional hurdles that come with it, alongside the hustle and bustle of city living.
Cadena shares, “Superstar is my opportunity to shed the weight of past negativity and embrace life with a glass-half-full mindset. It’s about surrounding myself with bright possibilities, positivity, and light. This EP is an invitation to celebrate life’s highs and hardships with me.”
As he embarks on a search for connection, the songwriter offers up honest anthems of wisdom and exploration. Title-track “Superstar” is a gritty rock track, with layered vocal harmonies and melodic guitars that delivers a Beatles-esque sound. “I Don’t Mind” is a psychedelic pop concoction, featuring jangly guitars and a sing-along chorus. The ukulele-led “Come Down With Me” provides the perfect, chilled-out conclusion to the EP, leaving listeners with a sense of calm and reflection. Superstar’s stripped-down, laid-back approach delivers a comforting feel, with storytelling lyrics that take us on an emotional and authentic journey.
