Following the release of his Rouge ou Noir EP, Parisian house music maestro Dan Ghenacia shares a brand new animated music video for his EP’s title track. The video is directed by Australian talent Lucy Dyson, behind visuals for Beyoncé & Paul McCartney, and content for brands including Hermés and more.
Dyson used the roulette wheel as her main visual cue for the video, creating a surreal trip through a casino via a playful cat-and-mouse pursuit of love. This idea was inspired by a tropical Ibiza-tinged psychedelic James Bond-esque narrative. The protagonist of the video is a mystery woman at the roulette table, then later in the casino bar, on the dance floor, and in the hotel lobby waiting at the elevators. It’s quickly apparent she isn’t a villain but a willing accomplice in a romantic trip.
Regarding her technique, Dyson said, “It was important to me that the collage style animation had a lot of texture, frames were printed out then re-shot to give a particular texture I couldn't get digitally, and that we mixed up the mediums used by also incorporating rotoscoped video footage, to really push the surreal dream-trip experience.”
The track was produced by legendary DJ/Producer Dan Ghanacia, who has toured the globe for over three decades and is a regular figure at Ibiza’s top events such as Circoloco and Jamie Jones’s Paradise. He leads the Alpha Wave Experience, an art collective working on a reinterpretation of the late inventor Bryon Gysin’s Dreamachine – a lighting device mechanically generating alpha waves.
“Stylistically it was great to work with the circle theme, referenced from the single’s artwork and Dan Ghenacia’s dream-machine project, linking the circular form to the analog mechanics of cassette tapes, vinyl records, portals and time,” Dyson remarked on her approach to ‘Rouge en Noir’.
‘Rouge ou Noir’ was recently released via freshly minted record label StrataSonic, which was created to empower artists and explore the depths of their musical expression free from the confines of genre. From uptempo house to tribal to ambient, the label celebrates experimentation, champions artistic freedom, and embraces the beauty of non-conformity. Nestled in a private enclave in Los Angeles, StrataSonic's home is the state-of-the-art recording studios helmed by the label’s in-house producers and has become the music industry's best-kept secret.
