Neo soul singer jaythehomie delivers introspective lyricism over rhythmic melodies on latest release, “baby.” The track blends upbeat harmonies and smooth bars to create a unique sound. Each verse weaves within the instrumental creating a satisfying genre-bending tempo.

“Baby” has a funky R&B beat with Pop and Rock undertones. The drum melody highlights the artist’s soulful vocals. His sound is reminiscent of Steve Lacy or Lenny Kravitz with a modern rapper twist. He delivers a fast rhyme scheme with inflected vocals. He repeats the song title as the chorus, “Baby, baby, baby, baby, on and on and on and on.”  Trumpet horns accompany the drums bringing an old-school groove to the beat. Its feel-good sound contradicts the reflective lyricism yet the two work well together.

With an alternative sound that defies normal genre constructs, the artist has created a contemporary love song. The track dives into the feelings of missing someone while also moving on.  He vocalizes, “I got three highs, lovin’ you, hatin’ you, and rushin’ back to your side.” The song is an ode to the complexity of the human psyche and a refreshing approach to breaking up. Jaythehomie has successfully made a happy-go-lucky breakup anthem.

I am a digital marketer and publicist with a passion for A&R and music management. Originally from Southern California, I spent many years as a transplant in the Midwest in the St. Louis and Chicago areas. Now I am back in sunny Los Angeles. Besides my professional life, I enjoy music of all genres with a sweet spot for hip-hop/rap. I love my west coast rap and all things Tupac, Kendrick, Nipsey, etc. I am always down to go to a show, whether the venue be the smallest hole in the wall or the largest arena.
