A Place For Owls ponder the Earth's plight on their new single “broken open seed”

Self-described as a Denver, Colorado-based emo band, A Place For Owls is an emotive guitar five-piece that has been crafting a brand new album how we dig in the earth, following up their self-titled 2022 debut. Aptly named "broken open seed" it is the first dynamic fruit the band has released from their upcoming long player.

Those expected earnest, emo sentiments can be felt deeply as the song rings out accompanied by strongly stuck chords backed with careering percussion. The urgency feels real as their lyrics detail a message of sleepy life hidden within the earth as wars and dark forces conspire above to threaten life on the surface. "I’m waking up the trees, the suffering / The glory and the grace the eye can see / I’d rather die tonight / Than live with vacant eyes."

The metaphorical and the philosophical rub up against each other fiercely but are never too overwrought. Instead, they managed to curtail the expansive sweep of music and maintain an indie sound that is ultimately reflective and even a little defeated by the end. Perhaps they're just seeking others to join their cause, they're certainly a band worth following, wherever they decide to lead.
