Brighton’s Sad Dads burst onto the scene with their debut single "Surf Instructor," released on August 16th. Formed by best friends Dan Noble and Owen Bullock, the duo delivers a vibrant blend of alternative-post-punk and indie, drawing comparisons to early Squid. Their infectious energy and tongue-in-cheek humor have already earned them radio play on BBC Radio 6 Music and Radio X.
"Surf Instructor" is a witty, self-deprecating track that humorously explores the frustrations of mundane jobs. With bright, fuzzy guitar riffs, driving drums, and expressive vocals, the song follows the ironic tale of a surf instructor who can’t swim—a nod to the absurdities of everyday life.
The single was written in a burst of creativity and recorded with the help of friend Matt Pugh, with mixing by local talent Bobby Smiles. The accompanying music video, directed by Willow Shields, features a quirky cast from Brighton’s creative community, adding visual charm to the track.
