Amahla’s "Money" is a bold anthem of empowerment wrapped in R&B and jazz brilliance

Hailing from London, UK, Amahla returns with a dynamic new single, “Money,” a track that flawlessly intertwines R&B and jazz to showcase her artistic evolution and unyielding vocal prowess. As the lead single from her forthcoming EP, Ooooh Honey!, "Money" sets the stage for what promises to be a celebration of women’s empowerment, delivered through the unique lens of Amahla's personal and musical experiences.

From the very first notes, “Money,” produced by PRGRSHN, hooks listeners with a groovy bassline, underpinned by the kind of orchestral flutes and brass that recall the golden age of jazz. By merging hip-hop beats with live brass orchestration, PRGRSHN and Amahla have created a sound that feels both classic and contemporary. This fusion allows Amahla’s voice to function as another instrument in the ensemble, her vocal melodies intertwining with the horns in a way that feels natural and effortless. The playful scatting towards the end of the track only adds to this sense of freedom and improvisation while highlighting Amahla's jazz roots.

Lyrically, “Money” is a witty and relatable take on modern romance. Inspired by a series of underwhelming dates, Amahla flips the script on the typical love song. Instead of pining for affection, she demands respect and accountability, using financial metaphors as a clever vehicle to express her frustration with time-wasters. Lines such as “If it's all too high a fine to pay then boo / Please don't waste my time when rent is due” capture the essence of her no-nonsense approach. The refrain, “It’s not every day about money,” serves as both a reminder and a declaration – love, like money, should not come with conditions that compromise one’s self-worth.

On "Money," Amahla not only reintroduces herself but does so with a confidence and artistic maturity that makes her stand out. This single is more than just a catchy tune; it’s an anthem for anyone who has ever felt undervalued and a reminder that knowing your worth is the first step to getting what you deserve.

As the anticipation builds for the release of Ooooh Honey! on September 27th, "Money" serves as the perfect appetizer – a taste of the bold, genre-blending artistry that Amahla has made her signature. She is clearly an artist on the rise, and “Money,” which perfectly showcases both her vocal talent and songwriting skill, is a shining example of why everyone should be paying attention.
