Waterparks take back their ‘Greatest Hits’ with new medley

Pop rock band Waterparks is celebrating their independence with their new song, “GH2024,” released Friday. The track is a medley based on their 2021 album, Greatest Hits.

This track marks the first material released since the cancellation of their album Intellectual Property 2: Lost in the Property, which would’ve been their first independently released project. The band left their previous label Fueled by Ramen in 2023.

Unlike the band’s previous medleys, which were derived from their first two records Double Dare and Entertainment, this 7-minute medley only pulls from a handful of the album’s 17 songs. This makes sense though, as the album still marks the band’s longest tracklist yet, and actually allows the medley to feel more focused and stand on its own.

The sections “Fuzzy” and “Lowkey as Hell” sound incredibly faithful to the original songs, with Geoff Wigington’s guitar and Otto Wood’s drumming feeling just as impactful as before. Meanwhile, “American Graffiti” is given a refreshingly barebones arrangement, with Awsten Knight showing slightly notable vocal growth.

On other parts, like the “Just Kidding” section, the hyperpop influences the original album first implemented come in full force here, reflecting the band’s recent sonic progression on the following album Intellectual Property.

Overall, “GH2024” is quite an eclectic listen, harkening back to Waterparks’ past while showing good signs of the band’s newfound independence.
