Why-D reappears as "Dolo the Icon (Malmoe, Malmoe)". [Video]

Swedish rapper/producer Why-D is preparing for his upcoming sophomore LP The Work of a Doloist, but in the meantime, he shares his new single "Dolo the Icon (Malmoe, Malmoe)" and its accompanying video. The track is a fitting tribute to the Golden era of rap/hip-hop culture and his hometown of Malmö, Sweden, and sees Why-D in his element over a self-produced hard-hitting, bare-bones backdrop. Here, he leads audiences into the dark alleys, street corners, and project buildings where he made his name. Far from glorifying the underworld, Why-D focuses on the complexities of life when inequality, lack of opportunities, and the need to survive converge to bring out the best or the worst in humanity.

The accompanying visual was shot in black and white on location in Malmö, Sweden with Why-D as the host. We get to see several parts of the city in its raw, unfiltered state while Why-D does what he loves the most.

WHy-D adds  “I was born and raised here,” Why-D explains. “Malmö will always be me, whether I like it or not, whether it’s good or bad.” It’s an honest depiction of his hometown, and he pairs it lyrically and visually with references to the ‘80s and ‘90s as well as hip-hop legends like LL Cool J, the Notorious B.I.G., and Prodigy.

Stream "Dolo the Icon (Malmoe, Malmoe)" on your preferred digital retailer or streaming platform. The Work of a Doloist, which Why-D produced in its entirety, is due out this Fall.
