Midlands-based upcoming indie pop artist zinha (pronounced: ZEEN-YA) is poised to make waves in the UK pop scene as she prepares to drop her debut EP titled ☹☺. Born in Portugal, she made a name for herself in her native city of Lisbon as a prolific performer. Now shuffling between the UK and Portugal, zinha returns with her new project which sees her working with songwriter/producer Josh Christopher.
The pair spent time building a working relationship and recording music in his makeshift studio and the result is this 8-track body of work. The project is heralded by the lead single "why do you make me wait?" a hypnotic ballad that blends retro pop with a modern twist that sees zinha pouring out her emotions with vigour.
Over the solemn and soul-stirring piano arrangement, she yearns for that perfect love while reflecting on the what-if situation. Lines like "Waiting and waiting with nothing but breathing to do/ you are the feelings I want to consume/and I will flower; I'm ready to bloom" give audiences the depth of her feelings and how she copes with the hurt and pain.
The accompanying visuals were directed by zinha herself and edited by multi-faceted artist x+y=u . The clip uses a collection of home recordings threaded with DIY-styled nostalgia-inducing aesthetics.
"why do you make me wait?" is lifted from zinha's forthcoming debut EP, an 8-track body of work filled with vintage-styled pop,soul/indie-dance tunes
