British-Nigerian artist Azu Yeché is back with his emotionally charged single, "Leave Me Now." Known for blending folk and soul, Yeché explores classic soul in this latest track, featuring slow-paced percussion, serene acoustic strings, and his commanding yet relaxed vocals.
"Leave Me Now" poignantly captures the pain of unrequited love. Yeché’s lyrics, "if your lovin’ is ruled by someone else, leave me now, oh leave me now," reflect the loneliness of an uncertain relationship. He explains, "I wrote 'Leave Me Now' from the viewpoint of being with someone who isn't as sure about the relationship as you are. You would rather end things than continue with someone who is not all in."
Self-written and recorded in just a couple of takes, Yeché worked with producer Jim Lawton to create a warm, stripped-back sound that highlights the song’s soulful essence. Yeché says, "It was a beautiful experience working with Jim Lawton. I believe we came up with a sound that is true to the soulful nature of the song but also has some subtle modern touches."
Fans of Michael Kiwanuka, Lianne La Havas, and Leon Bridges will find "Leave Me Now" a must-listen. Catch Yeché live on June 13th in Birmingham, June 14th in London, and June 28th in Leeds.
