Brother Valiant “C’est La Vie” is indie folk bliss

New York based singer/songwriter, musician and performer extraordinaire Brother Valiant has just shared his first single in nearly three years. Entitled "C'est La Vie", the track is off of his upcoming new EP Better Luck Next Time set for release later this summer.

With "C'est La Vie", Brother Valiant writes a song all about those little quirks, traits and habits we have that make us who we are. Sometimes those things our loved ones want us to change but the song shares the relatable narrative that making big changes for someone else rarely works and is often destructive. The track also highlights how important compassionate and heartfelt communication is as well as accepting people for who they are. Lyrics including, "C'est La Vie / I swear I've tried a million times before / C'est La Vie / But you know me / Despite it all I love you forever more," show this important theme. Musically, "C'est La Vie" transports the listener to a deep sonic envelopment complete with echoing guitar picking, warm vocal hues and an anthemic chorus. A tender delivery with well-crafted lyrics are also hallmarks of this mesmerizing indie folk song.

Brother Valiant is the musical project of AJ Amsterdam. First releasing music in 2015, the artist has found success with signing to Little Planet Music, the label run by David Rublin of American Authors fame. His 2021 release "Lady Daisy" found much critical acclaim and he has played extensively throughout the East Coast, at venues including The Iridium, Rockwood Music Hall, The Knitting Factory, City Winery, and The South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC).
