Bonneville revives '70s vibes with "The Chase"

Southern retro soul band Bonneville releases their highly anticipated single, "The Chase." This track, the fifth release from their upcoming second album, 'Flying Machine,' is a homage to 1970s car chase scenes, injecting an adrenaline-packed groove into the listener's experience.

Bonneville has taken a bold step by presenting an instrumental masterpiece that pays tribute to the urban thrillers of the '70s. Drawing inspiration from classic car chase scenes in movies like 'Dirty Harry' and 'Shaft,' the band has crafted a composition filled with rich, jammy funk to evoke imagery of screeching tires and flashing city lights.

"The Chase" is a breathtaking cinematic journey. According to Jeff Hayashi, the co-producer, co-songwriter, and guitarist for the band, listeners can expect to visualize a thrilling car chase from ‘Starsky & Hutch’ speeding through the bustling streets of Manhattan or San Francisco. The exceptional musicianship of the renowned Muscle Shoals FAME Recording Studios crew complements the song's vivid narrative.

While influences from artists like Curtis Mayfield and Vulfpeck are evident, the essence of Lalo Shifrin’s iconic scores truly propels the track. From its infectious horn lines to the deep grooves of the rhythm section, "The Chase" beautifully showcases Bonneville’s ability to blend nostalgia with a fresh, vibrant energy.

Wes McGee, another band member, hopes that "The Chase" will inspire fans to don their butterfly collars and platforms and enjoy an old '70s cop thriller. The song was born from a dream-inspired horn line that evolved into a full-fledged funk orchestra, with each musician delivering a standout performance.

GRAMMY®-recognized producer Starita guides the production and encapsulates the era's essence while expanding musical boundaries. "This song features a full horn section, flutes, strings, vibraphone, percussion – you name it," notes Starita. "The Muscle Shoals musicians have masterfully injected dynamic and powerful energy into the track."
