Rosalie James collaborates with Storefront Church on "ISLAND"

UK award winning artist Rosalie James has just shared her third single off of her highly anticipated upcoming album Full of Chemicals. Entitled "ISLAND" the song is a bit of a sonic departure for the creator with it leaning into more of an experimental folk vibe. The track features additional vocals from Storefront Church, the musical project of Lukas Frank.

"ISLAND" is a poignant song all about Rosalie's own experience of being a mother at a young age. Parenting is extremely difficult but when you're little more than a child yourself it is extra hard. She confides, "It speaks of the loss and regret implicit in realizing that although you did your best, it often wasn't good enough." The artist is open with her struggles with depression and anxiety and addiction while raising two children in her late teens and early twenties. Lyrics including, "I was an island / Out in the sun / Falling to pieces / For everyone / Pieces of me / Pieces I found / Give Me a reason to stick around," show how her children kept her from taking her own life at that time. "ISLAND" includes moody downtempo electric guitar picking under melodic vocal harmonies and melancholic string arrangements. The joining of Rosalie's and Storefront Church's vocals singing together is cathartic and timeless.

Rosalie James won the International Songwriting Competition for the Unpublished category for her just released single "Soft Target". The songwriter is quickly making a name for herself with her confessional indie releases. Teaming up with famed producer Daniel Knowles (Sharon Van Etten), we can't wait to hear the entire Full of Chemicals album soon. In the meantime, enjoy "ISLAND" now.
