Ottawa based rapper Dead Hendrix shares punk rap track “Til We Die,” a genre-bending melodic track that pushes the limits of the genre. A spontaneous exploration of his feelings, the track weaves expansive sonics and heartfelt lyrics together for an intricate musical journey.
Speaking of the process behind the track, he says, “I was in the studio when the producer made it, a talented rapper from Ottawa called KG Jay. He produced it for me and I was able to point out what I wanted and liked with the beat. I already had a few things written in studio and I sat with it for a few weeks, finished writing, and went back to the studio to record.”
A breakthrough talent who channels experimentation and freshness, the track sees him exercise and have fun with his vocal abilities. With a mixtape Talk2TheDead on the horizon, Dead Hendrix turns up the anticipation for what’s to come spanning everything from happiness to trauma and aspirations.
Diving into his process, he says “I always write to a beat and feed off a vibe and the mood of it.I have to really like the beat, really fall in love with it before I get to writing. I usually sit with it a bit and listen to it to hear what it is saying to me. I’ll drive around with it, turn it up loud in the car, and just kind of let it flow without thinking. I let words and ideas flow out of me, and whatever I like, I’ll write it down. What really sticks, I’ll build off of that.”
