Artimes Prime has dropped off a new album, titled Beer & Cookies. Philadelphia artist Artimes Prime’s discography is an adventure across the same diverse art he grew up listening to. His music fuses disparate sounds cohesively, injecting elements of hip-hop, pop, and R&B, while giving the listener something to ponder with thought-provoking lyrical content. His latest offering is an infectious blend of hip-hop, pop, and more, full of fun-loving, vibrant melodies while still not sacrificing his penchant for sharp lyricism.
Contrary to his prior recent releases, Beer & Cookies employs trap and electronic-leaning soundscapes- with airy, vibrant synth lines and crisp, silvery percussion lining many of the tracks. Emboldened by rich grooves and deft, mesmerizing flows, Prime rides a variety of beats smoothly, with joints like the opener "Life" and "Still Single" presenting a lively, fun-loving sound and style that keep them intriguing. "Sky Love"'s colorful, atmospheric production recalls elements of cloud rap, putting the listener into hypnosis with its ethereal feel. Album single "Liberty's Baby" brings in the style that Prime has been known for, with gritty boom bap and politically-inclined lyricism that adds versatility to Beer & Cookies.
Beer & Cookies is a cohesive, catchy blend of pop and old school hip-hop influences that showcases Artimes Prime’s ambitious ear and knack for potent, memorable songwriting. An almost oxymoronic pairing, the album’s title reflects the audacious fusion of these two genres, to a character-rich effect.
Prime explains, “‘Beer And Cookies’ is an example of two things that don't typically go together. The inspiration behind this project was simply a desire to challenge myself and make music unlike the kind I’ve made in the past. Usually, my music is ‘politically conscious’, and while this project still has some introspection and social commentary, there is also a whole other part that leans into Pop-Rap and party vibes.”
With the use of engaging melodies, potent social commentary, and memorable, often celebratory raps over hard-hitting beats produced entirely by Digital Crates, Beer & Cookies serves as Artimes Prime’s third full-length album.
