Experimental multimedia artist, musician, and producer L Twills shares new single “Illusion I: [Divisions],” from her upcoming album [After Her Destruction], a poignant and powerful production that comes alive with a tense musicality.
Creating a layered sonic atmosphere that brims with both vulnerability and strength, the track is built on fast drums beats that push forward a lush blend of pianos and synths. Quick paced yet slow and spacious, the track is intense yet offers a moment for reflection.
Thematically, the track is rooted in Germany’s complex history with facism exploring the resurfacing of asocials (DE. asoziale) in contemporary time. She explains further, “It was used to discriminate all people that weren't Jewish, but would not fit the system's doctrine in other ways, like for example sex workers, homosexuals, people that weren't white, communists, anarchists and neuro-diverse people.”
Yet another alluring glimpse of L Twills' sophomore release, an expansive 22-track collection that converges video-art, music, performance and storytelling for an immersive experience, the track draws listeners into her carefully crafted world while still opening up space for our own interpretations as she continues to weave through a maze of own perception to confront questions of identity, class and queerness.
