Brighton-raised singer-songwriter Sophie Bond a/k/a IYAMAH (eye-yam-ah) nurtured her creative side from an early age with the encouragement of her artistic mother. She got the bug for the piano and started writing songs alongside until she moved to London via a scholarship from the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, it was there she fell in love with neo-soul/hip-hop. This helped her recenter her style and after garnering much attention for her debut single, Cryptic Love in 2018 she never looked back. Now working on an upcoming 10-track album In Two Worlds, set for release in March 2024, she releases the lead single "Gemini Guy". The mellow guitar-driven track is ripe with her sultry vocal runs and enthralling melodies. The track is inspired by the star sign of the same name and talks about situations which bring out two distinctive different sides to one's persona. From a relationship perspective, she reflects on how we often reveal a hidden part of us when things change but is it for better or worse?
By sixteen, immersed in the festival culture and vibrancy from dub and DnB nights, she started writing top lines for DnB tracks with Brighton-based label Shogun Audio. She went on to feature on My Nu Leng’s “Senses”, touring the summer festivals including Glastonbury and SW4. She decided to follow her path as a solo artist and focused on developing a distinct soulful R&B sound, which she describes as Rootsy Soul, as she continues to remain connected to her musical beginnings, favourite genres, and a lyrical focus on identity, self-worth and female empowerment.
