Millhope's new single "Prototype" off their upcoming 2024 album "Truth&Dare" shows the band branching into exciting new territory. Teaming up with vocalist Jenny Thiele, they've created a genre-bending track that's equal parts stimulating and chill.
That cool, creamy electronic production gets punctuated by Thieles smokey, emotive vocals in a way that just gels. It's like these two were meant to collaborate and this isn't your standard verse/chorus pop song either – the melodies just float and drift into each other like a daydream.
I can see "Prototype" soundtracking all sorts of moments this winter. Coding with headphones on as snow falls outside. Going on an afternoon nature walk bundled up against the chill. Lounging by the fire lost in thought as the sun goes down early. It sets a vibe that kind of works with anything.
While it calls to mind some of my favorite electronic/ambient artists like Tycho and Boards of Canada Millhope have crafted something unique here. They're establishing a distinctive sound that refuses to sit neatly in any one genre. If this single is any indication, "Truth & Dare" is gonna be a revelation when it drops next spring.
