LA-based producer and designer Real Bad Man and YUNGMORPHEUS recently teamed up for a collaborative album The Chalice & The Blade and now they return with the visual for "Youngblood Priest/THX-1138". The two-in-one flick is a brilliant piece that encapsulates the duo's cinematic style that pairs rich engaging sound textures with unfiltered vivid bravado rhyme schemes. The first half titled "Youngblood Priest" is a moody piece with hushed drums and an ominous sample underpinned by YUNGMORPHEUS' laidback flow and descriptive lyrics like "You got your name from another man's tales/he from a city that was crafted of from cocaine/Gimme cheese I be comfortable with no name". This is followed by "THX-1138", a funky guitar-laden track with retro-tinged textures and a rigid groove that sees the rapper once again flexing his verbal muscles while a smooth melody runs through the chorus section.
The visual is straightforward in terms of style. The use of performance shots, exotic backdrops and retro-styled effects all add up to create a stunning clip that taps into the artists' unique styles.
YUNGMORPHEUS adds his two cents about the album as follows “‘The Chalice & The Blade’ is an album primarily rooted in dichotomies; contemplation of action vs action itself, inner locus vs outer locus, pursuit for self vs pursuit for others. Honesty is always the centrepiece. Play if you want cause I’m not!”. The album features Boldy James, Kool Keith, Grip, Blu, Fatboi Sharif, and more.
