British-Caribbean singer-songwriter Adannay was born and raised in South London and soaked in the rich black culture fro her immediate family and her environs. Inspired by Caribbean folk with elements of Gospel, alt-pop and soul, she is breaking the mould with her inspiring stories around black, queer joy and the power of resistance. Her latest release "Send For Me" explores a lesser-told story of the Windrush generation. Inspired by the story of Adannay's grandparents, uncles and aunties, “Send For Me” is written from the perspective of the children left behind in the Caribbean when their parents emigrated to the UK.

Over a fusion of Jamaican Mento elements with contemporary Afropop, Adannay delivers a smooth vocal performance peppered by layered melodic runs and heartfelt lyrics like "She lit a fire from within my soul, Gone, not a word since I was five years old./Now I'm running out, running out, Running out of recollections/Photos have faded now from grandma's house."

Adannay says: “The legacy of Windrush in Britain runs deep, but there are so many stories in this history that have gone untold. With this song I wanted to pay homage to these varied, lesser-heard perspectives – and to my own family who have lived them. It’s not about blame or judgement, but about understanding their legacy – seeking truth, nuance and empathy.”

"Send for Me" is the first in a string of releases ahead of her new EP, due for release in early 2024 – their most ambitious and personal project to date.
