Toya Delazy returns with “Bambelela”

The original Zulu rave queen T oya Delazy keeps pushing her musical versatility with her genre-less approach. Her latest record "Bambelela" is a brilliant fusion of Techno, Drum and bass, Rave and Hip-Hop, tied with rich Zulu lyricism, which pays homage to her South African heritage which she wears proudly. The production by North London producer/artist Raf Riley is quite remarkable and brings a whole new dimension to experimental music. From the dark cinematic textures, dynamic sound design, rapid drum breaks and the overall tension and resolution that permeates the track, Toya's commanding vocals cut through the mix with ease. She boldly delivers an impassioned and frenzied performance ripe with unapologetic songwriting that centers around the power of individuality and knowing one's true self. While most of it is sung in her native Zulu tongue, the energy and overarching theme is more than relatable and it's that anthem we didn't know we needed.
