Electronic producer HARBER has put his best foot forward across a milestone 2023 [Interview]

Multifaceted electronic producer HARBER has been tirelessly working his way up the ranks of dance music sine his 2018 debut with "Summer You". This year the producer has celebrated major milestones, drumming up new accolades like signing to labels like Lowly and looking forward to his first GRAMMY nomination. The 26-year-old artist hails from New York City and is a seasoned multi-talented producer, DJ, songwriter, musician, and entertainer.

As a live performer, HARBER has played the main stage of Electric Zoo NY, Webster Hall, Echostage DC, The Brooklyn Mirage, Avant Gardner, Nebula, Harbor, Schimanski, Miami Music Week, Spinnin’ Sessions yacht party and many more, warming the decks for marquee acts like Tiësto, Steve Aoki, MORTEN, Cash Cash, Audien, Snakehips, Julian Jordan, Vini Vici, Born Dirty, & many more.

Following a string of Lowly singles as we approach his first GRAMMY contender season, EARMILK catches up with HARBER on his latest goings on and what he has coming up.

HARBER's song “Medicine” (ft. Sydtherockerkid) was released this Summer on Lowly and is now up for GRAMMY® consideration. "I always loved “Medicine” from the start and you always hope something you put so much time into does well but you never know! I’m really glad it's getting the attention I thought it deserved.", he shares.

Fans saw billboards for the track in the heart of Times Square and in Los Angeles, "It’s honestly wild. My face is nowhere near pretty enough to be that big!". His 2023 single “Medicine” received major success across the charts. Giving some advice to fellow DJ's and producers, HARBER says, "I think the best advice I can give is just be persistent. Don’t be afraid to hear “no”. The music industry is one of those places where you hear so many no’s before one yes so you gotta just grind it out and believe in what you’re making."

His recent release “Falling For You” with Disco Fries & Sydtherockerkid marked his second joint-release with both artists. On his relationship with both acts, HARBER shares, "Both Disco Fries and Sydtherockerkd are extremely talented. It’s been so cool to work with them both twice now. Watching Disco Fries work is amazing, and Syd’s voice is so unique I never get tired of it."

2023 marked the year that sees HARBER become a Lowly signee. The prominent imprint behind Trap Nation and The Nations has released some of his most impactful work to date. "It’s been a really great experience being able to be consistently releasing a cohesive body of work with Lowly. I really wanted to lean into the piano house sounds and they’ve trusted me fully with that which has been awesome."

To close out the summer, he played one of his biggest career gigs to date, opening for NOTD at the Rooftop at Pier 17. From show to show, and set to set, HARBER's style varies and caters to his audience. "I live pretty close to Pier 17 and every time I passed it I thought to myself “I would love to play there” so to be able to take that stage was definitely a bucket list thing for me. With a bigger venue like that I like to mix much quicker to fit more songs into the hour and fifteen minute set as opposed to a longer club set where I like to let songs play out a bit longer."

Putting his all into everything he does, his time in the studio is always productive. With some songs taking longer than others, HARBER shares, "the quickest song I’ve created was probably my song “Remedy” – that one came very naturally to me. The longest was probably my song “Feelings After Dark.” With that one I  spent a long time nitpicking a lot of tiny details to get it to the place I wanted it to and I’m glad I did!"

With a breadth of musical influences driving his sound, he always has his ear to the ground to stay on top of the latest tracks. "My top 3 tracks of 2023 were almost definitely "Miracle", "I Go Dancing" and Ratata". Speaking on what's coming up in the time ahead, HARBER wraps our time together by sharing "I have some remixes and originals to round out the year I’m really excited about. I also have some shows coming up in 2023 that I can’t wait to talk about. Moving forward I’m excited to get out there more and travel around playing my songs."
