Australia-hailing pop up-and-comer Winifred takes a satirical jab at the music industry on “Want It Bad,” capturing his disenchantment with keeping her passion alive while also dealing with rat race of the industry.
Showcasing a seamless combination of ethereal vocals and dark electro-tinged instrumentals built on synths and strings, the track brims with a suffocation that reflects Winifred’s despondency.
Speaking of the inspiration behind the track, she says, “I was feeling and torn between my love of music and having to work in an industry that feels self-serving and transactional. I was almost embarrassed by it. I was looking around me at all these hungry artists with the same ambitions and passion as me and thinking, ‘it’s no secret how badly you all want this’, which made me ask myself, ‘How badly do I want this, and what is it exactly that I’m chasing?’”
The track is bolstered by a cinematic music video that offers up an ironic spin-off of a music awards TV performance delivering a powerful mix of delicate choreography and expansive outdoor shots to perfectly capture the superficial and manicured world of the industry presented by her uninhibited lyricism.
Having found her space in music with 2022 debut EP, Winifred picks up where she left off as she continues to build a lush sonic world framed by intricate melodies and intricate messages.
