Los Angeles based Lumen Loraine is the brainchild behind the magical and mystical Cayo Coco. Leading up to his sophomore album, Cosmic Healing, Loraine has just unveiled two new singles, “Haunt” and “Stay Awhile.”
Both energetic and atmospheric rock tracks, they individually offer listeners something different. “Haunt” touches on what at first appears as the insights into a failed relationship, the songwriter then delves deeper into the inner-workings of his mind, sharing, “I felt myself being stubborn on this track. I question The Universe, ruminating in the narrowness of the puny ego mind. But as the song forges on I feel myself breaking out of that cage and experiencing revelations of oneness (I’m the trees, I'm the moon, and so is everyone else). To me the song is recognition that I can finally give up whatever views I was clinging to in an attempt to make sense of my life.” Sonically, “Haunt” is a quirky release packed full of character and attitude. His animated vocals soar atop playful melodies and otherworldly synths, creating a memorable anthem.
“Stay Awhile” however actually is about a relationship, more specifically a romantic relationship in which someone is faced with the challenges of navigating different attachment styles. Loraine shares, “The anxious – avoidant dance is a pretty intense dynamic. A few years ago I was blindly living on the far end of anxious attachment. I spent a lot of time learning about the roots of this disposition, and started to heal and change. The chorus very much so reflects the inner conflict of the anxious.. don’t leave, don't leave… stay!!!!” “Stay Awhile” has a more beach rock vibe to it, with laid-back, ethereal vocals and twinkling synths which perfectly reflect the excitement, yet uneasiness of a flourishing new relationship.
Self-produced, alongside Zach Fogarty, these two new singles give us a glimpse into the upcoming album, as we get to uncover more about the magnificent mind behind Cayo Coco and the way he uses music as a method of self-discovery.
