Lagos-hailing singer-songwriter, performer, composer, poet and journalist Dwin, The Stoic and renowned Nigerian producer Rhaffy delve into the different ways that love can be experience on immersive five-track EP Love Lane.
With plenty of emotions that peak and fall, going from sweet to sour and joy to screaming, the collection takes us down a fictional lane within a versatile genre-bending soundscape. With his signature afro-fusion style stretching through, the EP has a little bit of everything for everyone in its relatable tales.
Opening with vulnerable duet “Home,” featuring Abuja/Toronto-based singer-songwriter Efe Oraka, the track unfolds a tale of pleading between two estranger lovers. Juxtaposing this broken relationship is the theme of warmth and familiarity in “Without Your Love,” and the aching hope of pop/R&B and afro-pop blended number “Streets.”
The EP toes the line between the sweetness of love and tales of heartbreak and betrayal, moving from the story of emotional abuse from a partner on “Allez,” to the search for love on amapiano production “Don’t Wait Up,” with US rapper Kelechief.
Rooted in Dwin’s penchant for vivid storytelling and Rhaffy’s natural versatility, Love Laneis an explorative and emotive project that has us thinking back to the love in our lives, framed by intimacy and relatability in perfect quantities.
