Viral alt pop artist Emei returns with another banger. Called "711", the song is the focus track off of her sophomore EP Scatterbrain.
With "711", Emei discusses her inner worry about social situations and battling social anxiety. The song takes the name from the convenience store, where Emei and her friends often frequent following a bad night out. Lyrics including, "I just got here / but I'm leaving / I'll avoid the bad impressions / is it part of surviving," show the trepidation she can feel in parties and social gatherings. Sonically, "711" is filled with chaotic synths mirroring Emei's heart pounding as she enters these situations being worried about what others are thinking. The song also features staccato strings, infectious melodies and an electronic-drenched dance pop chorus for an enticing listen.
Emei is quickly making a name for herself as one of the most exciting artists in alt pop. The Chinese American superstar has sold out most of her debut nationwide tour and her sophomore EP is already getting rave reviews. The songwriter often writes about releatable and important narratives including battling mental health issues, learning to cope with responsibilities and becoming an adult. Check out "711" now and remember we can all feel a little insecure at times.
