Nashville singer and songwriter Alanna Royale runs through a collection of themes weaving genre-bending sonics into vulnerable and revelatory lyrics on new album Trouble Is.
Capturing the burden of feeling like you’re limited by circumstances yet infused with blooming hope of emerging from every caveat filled with more confidence, the album journeys through dark times and vulnerability into a brighter light.
From the groovy feels of “The Other Side,” and “Forget Me,” to darker, heavier sounds of haunting yet tranquil number “Imagination,” as well as the exuberance and joy of anthems like “Run Around,” the nine-track album is filled with a liberating and cathartic core that pushes us to follow our hearts and keep faith in our vision for our lives.
Speaking of the LP, Royale says, “Now that the release of Trouble Is has finally arrived I'm looking back on the incredible obstacles I had to overcome to get to this moment and am feeling a flood of emotions that I've been holding onto until this day. Every single step of making this record from the first writing sessions up until this moment was a massive hurdle. But I, along with a team of incredible people who deeply care about the art and the artist, made it. The bar has been raised for how persistent and faithful I can be when pursuing my own vision and if I didn't give up through this process, there really ain't no stoppin me!"
Swerving away from classic soul sonics, the album which gives us an intimate glimpse of Royale’s vulnerabilities and troubles is a captivating listen that also leaves us feeling stronger.
