Singer0songwriter dery is a multi-faceted act who not only writes but co-produces her songs and has also worked with a handful of collaborators such as drummer/producer Doug Yowell. Her debut EP the foreword, was released in 2014, followed by chapter one, a 16-track body of work that served as the first of her chapter music series. This was subsequently followed by chapter 2 with guitarist/producer Felix Gerlach in 2022 and now she is back with a new single"Iron" featuring Colin Smith with production by Gerlach.
the third entry in the series. Aptly titled chapter 3, which sees her teaming up once again with. On “iron” she recruits Colin Smith for a brilliant duet that displays their vocal dexterity with dery’s light lilting vocals underpinned by Colin’s subtle baritone runs. The record is quite dynamic and slowly builds up as the duo’s vocals rise to a plateau. The track sees dery pontificating on losing emotional strength and the will to carry on with a love that seems to be withering away. “fly” is a candid open letter to a past lover whose actions or lack thereof made her weary after the fact and now she is glad it’s all over with the memories.
Overall, "iron" is an emotionally immersive track filled with heartfelt, solemn and relatable songwriting, especially for women who might be going through similar things. It's also rich in terms of sound and from a production standpoint.
