Multi-faceted talent Guard shares “color by numbers,” the moody final single from his upcoming sophomore album IT WAS ALL A MEME…alongside self-directed visuals. The track which navigates through confusion of the dating game is backed by a dark trap musicality with introspective lyrics co-written with fellow queer artist Indiana Williams.
Unveiling the story of Guard finally feeling mentally stable enough to look for companionship, the poignant production is accompanied by a powerful music video which showcases bravery and vulnerability simultaneously as it delves into the story behind a gnarly scar on the artist’s sternum.
Speaking of the message behind the video, he said, “I wanted to be brave as an artist and show an aspect of myself that I try to hide & in a sense paint a picture of who I truly am. My scars make me stronger & there is a lesson to be learned through every adversity. However, I think it’s also okay to want to pursue things that don’t sabotage my mental well-being & to not want “just another lesson”. My journey over the past few years has been learning how to trust and respect myself.”
Set to explore an electronic sensibility with touches of pop, trap and dancehall, the upcoming album which follows the success of his 2020 album The Identified Patient, is set to lead us through a stream of Guard’s consciousness framed by feelings of instinct and trust.
