Singer/songwriter Joy Bogat caught our ears with her newest release "Raise My Glass," a heartfelt and solemn track that explores her roots and how certain characteristics and influences are strung along generations.
Over the soulful and triumphant production, Joy comes to terms with who she is and pays homage to her antecedents with lines like "Things coming together finally/ Like two trains colliding on full speed, Packed with history, culture, grief/ I awake sometimes from my ancestor's screams/ Surely of joy but who knows what did they see."
Her soothing vocals exude a joyful and merry feeling which rises to a crescendo with the singer asserting in the chorus: "Raise my glass to all the ones before me. How they paved a way/ I swear to do my best to break the circles/ Free us from all the weight we’ve been carrying, For generations."
Overall, the record is a perfect introduction to Joy Bogat, a multi-talented Black German woman who is giving voice to the voiceless.
