RCA rapper TOBi calls on Kenny Mason to take the phrase “killing the game” to the next level.
Balancing a poised mix of socially conscious lyrics and braggadocious verses, Oluwatobi Feyisara Ajibolade, a.k.a TOBi is back with another single to join the 2023 slate of releases in anticipation of his next album.
“Flatline” demonstrates the rapper/singer's growth in witty wordplay and prowess in hard-hitting hooks. While a fraction of the song takes a moment to talk some sh*t, TOBi and accompanied performer Kenny Mason waste no time showing opposition for a larger, violent force.
“Gold cufflinks / f*ck cuffs on wrists”.
Utilizing the song's first few lines, TOBi paints a picture of a more just society and a better world where his community can find wealth and prosperity over the consequences of an oppressive hand.
TOBi incorporates many contemporary socially conscious lines that take a jab at systemic issues while hinging off a slight bit of humor.
“How are we supposed to steal the wave / we on stolen land?” takes a job at critics commenting on artists within his foreground, despite ignoring the larger issues in the west of colonialism.
“Flatline” goes bar for bar with the rapper showing no signs of slowing down with the new project on the way. TOBi maintains the energy in his performance and the voracity in vocal inflictions throughout, providing a reminder to maintain the focus in the fight.
“Flatline” comes with the announcement of a new album, Panic is slated for release on October 12 via RCA Records.
