Art pop project Careful ruminates on the idea of secrets on new single “I had a secret,” contrasting the burden that secrets put on people who hold them while how irrelevant they can be to nearly everyone else.
The second single to be taken from upcoming EP Promise/Practice, the emotive production weaves through feelings of shame, cruelty, self-destruction, and hedonism as we scurry to bury a secret.
With a nostalgic touch brought to life by a warm yet distorted soundscape of soft saxophones bolstered by poignant song writing, the track is described as “a relic recovered long after the singer had gone.”
Careful was born out of the cross-stream of art rock and concert music in LA as the project of multi-instrumentalist/producer Eric Lindley formed in 2010. And now as he returns after a long hiatus, the act is to bring classic elements of their past together with plainly spoken emotion and crisp melodic songwriting, to contrast the sometimes surreal, poetic lyrics, complex arrangements, and digitally altered vocals.
