Germany-based singer-songwriter SÉNA fell in love with music at a young age and learned multiple instruments ranging from the cello, guitar to the piano. Although her formal music training was in the classical department, she later found interest in Jazz, Pop, and Neo-soul which she fuses with her Turkish roots to reflect who she really is. Her latest record "Love It Or Leave It" is a relatable tale of one-sided love between two individuals. Inspired by her own experience of dating someone who didn't reciprocate the same feelings and emotions, she shares her story with vivid detail and lines like "I don't need you to tell me, I'm beautiful/I don't need your approval to know my worth" which captures her moment of strength and realization of her true worth. Backed by a smooth, sombre backdrop made up of warm guitar plucks, pads and a gentle drum groove, SÉNA brings us closer to the situation with a laidback demeanour which rises to the tip of the chorus section.
The song is accompanied by a colourful visual representation that makes use of eye-catching set pieces and not-so-subtle motifs that accentuate the power of self-discovery and belief. There is quite a lot to unpack here and it's hard to do it justice with mere words so watch it and bask in its soul-gripping glory.
SÉNA adds that the song was written to inspire and motivate women in similar situations to realize that they deserve to be loved and respected equally and they should never settle for less.
