Emerging Nigerian American musician Agho delivers his debut EP 206. The 6 track body of work sees him fusing a handful of musical elements ranging from Afrobeats, Reggae, Alt-Rock, Hip-Hop, and Afro-pop underpinned by his own distinctive style. The project tackles different topics from love, social-political views and his experiences in his home country Nigeria and New York City where he resides. Title 206 is a reference to the score he achieved on the university entrance exam called JAMB back in Nigeria and serves as a reminder for the young artist to always strive harder in order to achieve his goals.
The project opens up with the sombre guitar-driven "No Joy" which dives into the gloomy world of the downtrodden and helpless, this is followed by "DPLA (Don't Push Love Away)", a heartfelt afropop tune that dwells on blossoming love. Over the warm and hypnotic groovy backdrop, he pours out his heart to a skeptical lady who wants more assurance. "Crisp" starts out with a lush acoustic guitar chord that slowly builds into a thick bass-driven backdrop laced with solemn textures while Agho entices a lady with some slick verbal game and sultry melodic runs. The "2-6(Interlude)" has some electronic and experimental aesthetics that are underpinned by Agho's airy and offbeat vocal style while "Konami" is a slight nod to the famous video game company of the same name. The track has a lush video-game-esque feel with thick Afropop drums to match. The record sees Agho making moves with his love interest hoping she won't play him like you know what. The final record "Not Enough", is a laidback reflective track ripe with sublime harmonies and catchy melodic hooks.
