British/American duo Strange Flesh takes aim at societal standards placed on women on “Very,” an anthemic production rooted in soaring vocals underscored by robotic yet punchy beats. Bringing a gleeful defiance to life and shedding pressure to achieve, the track shrugs off the idea that life ought to be lived a certain way.
Infused with organic touches of birdsong, the pop of cans opening, and the gurgle of Varrick and Ed’s kitchen sink, the track hones in on the duo’s avant-pop musicality and their penchant for incorporating rogue sounds into their powerful musicality.
Speaking of the track, they say, “'Very' is the anthem of a woman on her own deliciously precarious path: the soundtrack to beloved but ill-paying employment, discount decadence, no children, and a healthy disregard for the future.”
The track is accompanied by chaotic yet impactful visuals that capture the protagonist’s journey within an abstract motif.
Comprised of married couple Varrick and Ed Zed, the Brooklyn duo which was forged in 2020 found their feet in 2022 as they carve out their niche within the pop landscape with their reflections of social alienation, moral panic and more.
