LOUPE are an Amsterdam-based four-piece indie rock outfit that are rapidly building support from an expanse of tastemakers and radio stations. It’s off the bat of this success that the band release their highly anticipated debut album ‘Do You Ever Wonder What Comes Next?’, a project filled with character, atmosphere and beauty.
The band flexes their talents as they create these incredible soundscapes that perfectly capture each instrument. Lead singer and lyricist Julia’s vocal performances glide through the songs, like an angel calling your name in a dream. The rest of the band create a flowing texture with some tracks gently guiding you with elegant guitar lines and some tracks expressing a set of much more aggressive emotions, with just the right amount of grittiness. Besides Julia, the band consists of Jasmine on guitar, Lana on bass and Annemarie on drums.
Lyrically, the album dives into what it means to grow up in the modern age. Finding your connection with the world and those around you. Julia explains, “For me it was all a kind of transition, with 'on the one hand 'the new life and all the cool things that come with it. And on the other hand, the uncertainty of being alone in the big city and the adult world.” This is echoed in the collaborations with young people in other disciplines, with album artwork by Ukrainian graphic designer Karaska.
This debut project from the band is effortlessly catchy and captivates you from start to finish. Each song is able to convey as much meaning from the music as it does from the lyrics, it sticks to the youthful message but covers all bases of it, whilst still staying more than coherent. The band are set to join fellow indie-rock breakouts Lovely on tour in the UK later as well as embark on their own European journey. The only question that remains is, when will LOUPE skyrocket?
