Whimsical indie pop meets experimental hip hop duo Olive + Harrison have just shared a new single and music video called "Normal, See?" The single is the first song in over six years for the duo following their debut track "Can't Communicate" shared in 2017.
With "Normal, See?", Olive + Harrison shine a light on people's facades and how ridiculous it is to hide one's true self from the world. This masking of one's feelings and the pressures of society to be perfect can lead to mental health struggles and self esteem issues and Olive + Harrison brilliantly relay these messages in their new single. Lyrics include "because I'm normal see? / what the hell is normalcy / self loathing / been suppressing my depression / walking on a tightrope." Musically, "Normal, See?" offers a unique sonic melting pot full of dark alt pop melodies, hip hop beats and indie soundscapes. Olive begins the song with her enthralling vocals singinging over dark sporadic beats. Harrison continues the verse with his wild rap flow that is as poignant as it is important. In the accompanying music video, the duo can be seen in an old house manically painting, breaking windows and even lighting the house on fire to showcase the intense and colliding emotions that coincide with mental health issues.
Olive + Harrison is a NY based duo formed by singer/songwriter /pianist Olivia Handler and producer/engineer/vocalist Harrison Forbes Schneider. Drawn together by their love of music, creation and existencial narratives, the twosome began sharing music in 2017. With a knack for hard hitting storytelling packaged in a unique musical rollercoaster, Olive + Harrison are ones to watch.
