Los Angeles based singer/songwriter Jules Paymer has just released their latest single alongside a cheeky new music video. Called "Mommy Issues", the pop punk meets alt rock tune follows their emotive duet "The Daughter That My Mother Wanted" featuring Miki Ratsula.
In "Mommy Issues", Jules reflects on a time when they were dating a girl who they thought was a bit too old for them. Diving deeper, Jules thinks it could have been a result of their messed-up relationship with their mom and trying to heal from their past. Lyrics including, "I'm f*cked in the head / with every kiss / I feel a little less sick / you've got me so close / I'm about to break through / were working on those mommy issues," show that Jules is aware of their issues but is having way too much fun with their new love affair to stop it. "Mommy Issues" features infectious vocal melodies with a tongue-and-cheek delivery. Grunge-drenched guitars collide with thumping basslines and elevated synths for an enthralling listen. In the accompanying visuals, Jules is seen at their therapist's office. The visit soon turns into a debaucherous party and make out session for a wild and dirty good time. All of this though at the end is just in Jules' mind.
Jules Paymer began playing music at the young age of 7 in their Los Angeles garage alongside a young Lydia Night of The Regrettes fame. Moving to Nashville as a young adult, Jules immersed themselves into songwriting bootcamp. Since then, the prolific writer has gained critical and commercial acclaim for their raw and cathartic musical releases.
