British artist Honey Gentry has just released the first single off of her upcoming EP. “Under Taurus” perfectly encapsulates the songwriter’s desire to create baroque pop for introverts, as she explores themes of escapism, dreams, and mythology to create something intensely personal and real.

“Under Taurus” began as an ode to a poem by Louise Glück and reflects on the loss of one’s childlike ability to see things as they are, in order to mold oneself into someone else’s desires. The London-based artist speaks about this poem, sharing, “It reminded me of when I was a child in the countryside with my dad and he would wake me up on a clear night and we’d go outside and spot shooting stars. We’re always talking about space. But then as you get older, you lose your childlike ability to say things how you see them; because it makes another person happier if you see what they see. So the song was born out of that feeling of moulding yourself into another person’s desires in order to make them happy.”

With relatable lyrics and mesmerizing melodies, Gentry invites listeners into her hauntingly beautiful soundscape, as you lose yourself in the dreamy, celestial sonic world she has built.
