Manchester-based MC, Producer and Singer-Song Writer Renee Stormz first caught our attention with the collaboration she did with Morgana a while back and now she returns with the visuals for her song "All The Smoke."
The London, UK-born Renee actually lived in Nigeria for some time before returning during her teens and the experience really shaped her musically and culturally. Backed by Nottingham-based producer Superbeats' jazz-infused backdrop, Renee embodies The Queen, The Huntress, The mystic and The sage, which serves as her main character traits.
Inspired by the book Goddesses in Every Woman, Renee proceeds to stand on her truth, imploring us that she is ready for all the smoke as she doesn't shy away from living her truth. Lines like "Living in the middle of a rock and a hard place that shit couldn't kill him/"kiss from a rose that grew out the concrete it was killing me softly" help define her mental strength in the face of adversity. The song also comes with a visual that captures Renee in her element alongside her friends.
This is Renee’s first new release since her album Ore Mi. Created and released during the lockdown of 2020, the album is a collaborative piece created between Renee Stormz and Altosounds. Meaning ‘My Friend’ in Yoruba, Ore Mi is an amalgamation of contrasting cultures and sounds meeting in a place to create something unique. Renee takes the space and explores stories of love, heartbreak, death, grief and self-discovery, creating an interactive listening experience whereby the listener can take whatever they need from the sounds and lyrics on the album.
With a new musical direction and a new lease on life, "All The Smoke," is the first of a string of releases for Renee Stormz this year
