French shoegaze/post-punk quartet You Said Strange shares a glimpse of their forthcoming LP Thousand Shadows Vol.2 with “Control,” which delves into forgetting or losing ourselves in an effort to make relationships last.
Led by intense yet melodic pop-tinged instrumentation, the track strikes an intricate balance between the tenderness and danger of handing over the reins of our lives to someone else.
Framed by strength and modesty, “Control,” and its accompanying music video showcase the rising quartet’s genre-spanning sound that weaves seamlessly across shoegaze, noise pop, and psychedelic rock to bring themes of melancholy and love to life.
Speaking of the process behind the visuals, "Getting lost in the middle of Nevada, as far away from everyone as possible, landing on the seat of the truck, pretending that the tank is empty and no one will come to get you — that was the idea that shaped this clip for ‘Control,’ simply shot with a phone in 1 take in unsuspectingly freezing cold. Voluntary constraints, and other unexpected ones, made this desert landscape a favorable choice for the internal struggle of this track.”
Having made a strong impression with their 2022 album Thousand Shadows Vol.1,You Said Strange are all set to deliver a second chapter which they describe as an exploration of “the many shadows that still linger everywhere.”
