British sibling duo ANGEL X STAR have just dropped their new single, “Jolene.” A song about love and heartbreak, the brother and sister take their own individual experiences and unite them, while simultaneously paying homage to Dolly Parton’s 1974 hit song. Flipping the sonic world of the loved country song and bringing it into the modern Afro R&B realm, ANGEL X STAR provides us with something that we never knew we needed.

The duo explain, “This is a heartbreak song inspired by Dolly Parton. We took the vision and the hurt from that song and related it to our own heartbreak. Angel is singing about a girl he ‘’fumbled’’ yet to find out that that was his love, his first love and Star comes from a different perspective asking questions like, “you could have told me that love will hurt like this”.”

Despite being so far from the original track sonically, ANGEL X STAR finds mutual ground with Parton, with the overall theme of heartbreak and pain bringing them together. In the new single, we hear the siblings demonstrate their impressive vocal range which tells their unique stories, while captivating listeners with a hypnotic beat and echoing synths. “Jolene” is the perfect track to remedy those lovesick emotions.
