1tbsp is a project by Australian Grammy Award Nominated artist Maxwell Byrne, which has a sound that can be likened to a mix between Daphni, Four Tet and DJ Koze.  This lest EP is titled 'It's Very Loud', and it is out now via his own label Sumoclic.
The EP features recent singles alongside one other previously unheard gem and title-track, "It's Very Loud", which was co-written with his friend Squidgenini who also featured on his 2022 single "Seasons". 1tbsp exclusively shares a deeper look at the EP with EARMILK in a track-by-track "My new It’s Very Loud EP is all about self expression and making music that excites me that I want to share and DJ. It’s a pretty simple concept but sometimes other things get in the way and I wanted to make this louder than previous things I've made", 1tbsp shares.

"pioneer digital plastic sound"

"Over the last two years I’ve grown a deep love of djing & throwing parties. But at the same time I found that a lot of the dance music I was making wasn’t quite fitting or would feel like a lull in my set. I made this song trying to change that and every time I’ve played it in my set it’s felt like a peak which is such a special feeling. My favourite part in the song was made by stacking the detuned/chorusy chords to feel like a wall of sound."

"no nein" (feat. mietze conte)

I made this one with my friend (and label signee) Mietze Conte. They showed me a bunch of music they’d been making last year and we all decided to release it through sumoclic (a record label I run). We made this song in Austria and I was feeling so inspired at the time. Mietze Conte played those chords on a juno60 and had the LFO pushed really high. Sometimes it was falling in time with the chords and other it was falling on the off beat, so I cut the recording in a way that the chords/bass falls on beat & then off beat.

"It’s Very Loud"

I build this around a bass line that Squidgenini played the first time we met up to write. I scraped everything else we made and cut in some samples from tracklib. This is sort of the b-side on the EP and I tried to make it a bit of a slower burn / dubby. The main vocal in the track is this trashy pop vocal but the way I cut it created new lyrics which weren’t there originally resulting in the repeating “It’s Very Loud”

"Four Tet is my Godmother"

This one was built around a breakbeat that had a single bass note in it. I cut/pitched it into a bassline which also made the drums change in pitch which sounded really interesting to me. I wanted to make this one feel a bit classic with the rave chords & soulful vocals but arrange it in a way that felt unique. Nick Ward sent me a bunch of modular recordings which I cut into the 2nd half of the track which really makes it swell.
